Last week I was taken around the town, taking in a guided tour of the ancient buildings and structures their and the history of its development by a past Chief Conservation officer for Derbyshire County Council. Wirksworth. What an interesting tour, and never knew there was so much to this place and the important work of the conservationists that has helped evolve this town with this interesting history. The limestone quarry, at the centre of the town dominated them many years but is now redundant, and since the seventies the town has flourished and has an interesting ambience of ancient and more recent buildings. Certainly the church sat back off the high Street is worth a look, but you do need to have a walk around, from a market space and explore the very narrow streets and car less properties surrounding it. Visit the heritage centre that is about to be renovated donated to spab located on the main high street.
